Some Celtic fans have reacted to the referee appointment in the upcoming Old Firm derby at the weekend.

STV journalist Raman Bhardwaj recently posted an update about the upcoming clash involving Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox. He revealed that John Beaton will officiate the Premiership clash at the weekend. He went on to say that Beaton had to ‘call the cops’ when he last refereed the fixture at Ibrox.

Do you feel Beaton is a Rangers fan?

Of course he is

This update left many Celtic fans fuming. They made their dislike for Beaton very clear in their tweets.

Beaton faced death threats back in 2018 after being involved in an Old Firm clash back in December of that year. He had come under fire for failing to punish Gers striker Alfredo Morelos for three separate incidents, says the Scottish Sun.

Beaton has refereed only 27 games in all competitions this season. 16 of them have been Scottish Premiership games. He has refereed a total of 34 Celtic games in the past, giving as many as 10 penalties to the Hoops. That is five more penalties than he has given to Rangers. With Beaton officiating, Celtic have won 27 games.

That could be proof that Beaton isn’t exactly anti-Celtic in any way.
