Some Celtic fans have made it clear that they agree with the latest tweet that the Athletic’s Celtic correspondent Kieran Devlin sent out recently.
Devlin shared an article of his on Twitter, talking about how important European football is to the Hoops. He went onto say that domestic success is directly related to what the side goes onto do in the European front. The reporter said that it has an impact on whether they can keep players like Odsonne Edouard at Parkhead or not.
Will European success keep Edouard at Celtic?
I'm afraid he's gone anyway
Yes, we can keep him
When Devlin relayed the piece, it got many Hoops fans talking. Many of them agreed with his comments.
100% baffles me the amount of Celtic fans that don’t seem to understand that doing well in Europe is vital to our long term success

And domestic dominance grant’s us access to Euro competitions – 10 iar is thee priority- we can obsess about Europe in 15 months time , no harm done

Absolutely!European football is the true test of how good we are as a team/squad. It’s our biggest stage and always will be. We need to be on it regularly and [progressing] as much as possible.

Completely agree. After CLG qualification in 16/17 & 17/18 Celtic were poised to be there every year & maybe invest to be a R16 club. The laist 2 qualifying campaigns have been very disappointing. Even a little investment would’ve put Celtic into the groups.

What do we think?
Celtic’s loss to Copenhagen in the Round of 32 of the UEFA Europa League did come as a blow. They may be on track to win the domestic treble but being in Europe would allow them to keep hold of someone like Edouard.
The Frenchman has been linked with a move to teams like Leicester City and Monaco– teams that have a chance of playing European football next season. Leicester are in the Champions League spot in the Premier League, while Monaco are six points behind a Europa League spot in Ligue 1.
European football will be a lure for Edouard or any player like him, considering clubs of that stature seem to want him. The same happened with Moussa Dembele, who left in the summer of 2018 to join Lyon- who were playing in the Champions League last season.
In that sense, Devlin is right about the importance of European competition for the Hoops.
