Some Newcastle United supporters have been showering Miguel Almiron with praise on social media for his ‘brilliant performance’ in Tuesday evening’s FA Cup victory over West Brom.

The Magpies came away with a 3-2 victory from Tuesday’s fifth-round FA Cup fixture, successfully booking themselves a place in the quarter-final draw, which is set to take place on Wednesday.

Paraguayan international Miguel Almiron played a pivotal role in the Magpies’ 3-2 win. Playing in a central role behind centre-forward Joelinton, Almiron helped his side to see off the challenge of current Championship leaders West Brom by scoring two of Newcastle’s three goals.

In addition to his two goals, Almiron made two key passes and two successful dribbles, according to WhoScored.com, who gave the Paraguayan an overall rating of 8.72, earning a higher overall rating than any other player on the pitch in this game.

Some Newcastle supporters have been sharing glowing reviews of Almiron’s recent performance on social media. Read the messages of admiration towards the £18m-rated Almiron (as per Transfermarkt) from some Newcastle fans following Tuesday’s game in the tweets below.

What do we think?

It may be fair to say that Almiron was key for Newcastle’s success in Tuesday’s game, given his impressive individual display.

It may also be fair to say that Newcastle’s overall performance dropped once Almiron was substituted off in the 71st minute. The Magpies took just two of the 15 shots that they attempted at The Hawthorns after Almiron had been taken off the pitch.

Furthermore, West Brom created eight of the 18 shooting opportunities that they forged out in this fixture once Almiron had been replaced by Jonjo Shelvey. The Baggies also scored both of their two goals in the latter stages of the game. It may be fair to claim that Almirón was Newcastle’s main man on Tuesday evening.
