Some Birmingham City fans have been reacting to some footage of Cheick Keita that was recently posted by the Blues’ official Twitter account with calls for the 23-year-old left-back to be played more often.
According to Transfermarkt.co.uk, after leaving INF Clairefontaine, the football academy which was described as “the beating heart of a national academy system” by The Telegraph in 2018, Keita joined Monaco’s youth academy in July 2011, where he remained until July 2014, when he left France to join Italian club Virtus Entella.
Keita originally joined the Blues in January 2017, commanding a transfer fee of £1.53m when he joined Birmingham City from Virtus Entella. However, the 23-year-old left-back has struggled to impress during his time in England. Keita has made just 11 appearances for Birmingham City during his time with the club, with none of them coming this season or last season.
Some Blues supporters have been reacting to a recent post from Birmingham City’s official Twitter account, which shares footage featuring Keita, with calls for the 23-year-old to receive more game time for the Blues. What do we think?
Since making 10 appearances in the 2016/17 season, Keita has made just one appearance for Birmingham City. The 23-year-old was sent out on loan to Italian club Bologna for the “entire 2017/18 season”, before subsequently joining Belgian club KAS Eupen on loan for the 2018/19 campaign.
While Keita was loaned out for the previous two seasons, the 23-year-old left-back hasn’t made a single appearance for Birmingham City this season, despite being available for selection. Considering that Keita has only featured in 11 Birmingham City games in total since joining the Blues in January 2017, it may be understandable why some Birmingham supporters have been calling for the 23-year-old to be played more often.
