Some Wolves fans have taken to social media to share criticism of José Mourinho’s post-match comments following Tottenham’s home loss to Wolves this past weekend.

Wolves didn’t take the lead in Sunday’s game up until the 73rd minute when a Raul Jimenez goal made the scoreline 3-2 in favour of the visitors, giving them the lead for the first time in the game.

While Wolves managed to respond with an equalising goal on both occasions that they trailed Tottenham during this fixture, Spurs were ultimately unable to respond once the visitors took the lead and Wolves emerged with a 3-2 victory.

In his post-match press conference, Mourinho voiced his displeasure with the result of Sunday’s game. The Spurs boss claimed that the game’s possession statistics would show that his side “had more control” of the game versus Wolves, before stating that the result was “unfair”.

The Athletic’s Tim Spiers posted a tweet sharing some of Mourinho’s post-match comments on the result being unfair, as well as the Portuguese manager’s statement that Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves “should have been booked in the first minute”. These comments drew the ire of some Wolves fans who responded to Spiers’ tweet with criticism for Mourinho. Were Spurs victims of poor refereeing in Sunday's game?

What do we think?

Mourinho’s Spurs side received a total of three yellow cards in Sunday’s fixture, while only two Wolves players were booked in this game. However, according to Whoscored.com, Wolves committed two more fouls than Spurs in Sunday’s game, with attacker Diogo Jota, who scored and assisted one goal each in the game, committing a total of three fouls without receiving a yellow card.

While there may be an argument to be made that Wolves got away with making some fouls without being reprimanded in this game, Spurs’ failure to capitalise on their possession-dominant display may ultimately be the main reason for their loss, as opposed to unfair refereeing.

Tottenham accumulated a total of 65.5% of the possession in Sunday’s game. However, they ended up taking a total of just 13 shots, to Wolves’ 14 shots at goal. It may be fair to say that Spurs’ failure to turn their possession into goalscoring opportunities hurt them in this game.
