Spurs fans have been discussing Erik Lamela’s stats for the club on the Argentinian’s birthday.

The winger turned 28 on Wednesday and was treated to a birthday post from @LastWordOnSpurs on Twitter, which featured some of his stats during his time with the North London club. Although the post featured one of the former Roma man’s most memorable moments in a Spurs shirt with his ‘rabona’ goal from 2014, a lot of fans have commented that his overall stats are far from good enough.

Although the tweet seems to be some way off on his stats – with Transfermarkt depicting a (slightly) different story as far as the winger’s performances at Spurs are concerned.

In nearly seven years with the club, Lamela has made just 212 appearances for the Lilywhites, scoring 33 goals and providing 45 assists (via Transfermarkt). Injuries have perhaps prevented the Argentinian from ever becoming a regular in the Spurs side, with the winger remarkably missing 57 games with a hip injury suffered in 2016.

Who holds the record of having scored the quickest goal in Premier League history?

Although Lamela’s record appears to, in fact, stand at 33 goals since his arrival six and a half years ago in North London, that still averages out at around five goals a season – which would arguably bring about a similar response given it is still a pretty meagre return for an attack-minded winger.

These Spurs fans clearly aren’t too impressed with Lamela’s record in a Spurs shirt and several commented saying they want the 28-year-old to leave the club.

What do we think?

Lamela’s injury record and lack of appearances for the club suggest that his time at Spurs has not been a particularly successful one, but it seems as if Mourinho is a fan of the winger so perhaps he won’t be leaving the club anytime soon.
