Spurs fans were shocked to hear that the club are reportedly interested in signing Watford’s Ben Foster to provide competition for Hugo Lloris next season.

According to the Sun (via Ricky Sacks), Jose Mourinho is considering a shock move for the former England international and is desperate to bring in some competition for Lloris. The 36-year-old would certainly provide some experience; having made 354 Premier League appearances,  should he sign for the North London club and with his contract with Watford set to expire at the end of the season, he would represent a cheap option for Mourinho.

So far this season, the former West Brom man has averaged a 6.57 rating for the relegation candidates but certainly played his part in Watford’s surprise 3-0 win over Liverpool at the weekend; earning a 6.96 rating as he earned a clean sheet against the Champions elect.

These Spurs fans don’t seem too keen on the prospect of signing Foster ahead of next season.

What do we think?

Spurs were without Hugo Lloris for a significant period this season and poor performances from Paulo Gazzaniga, most notably in games against Chelsea and most recently, Wolves, have suggested that he may not be good enough to be the back-up choice. However, Foster will be 37-years-old by the time next season starts, so he would surely only be a short-term option.
