Some Southampton fans have been talking about the latest comments that goalkeeper Alex McCarthy made recently.
Speaking following Southampton’s weekend defeat to Newcastle (via the Daily Echo), the 30-year-old said that it was ‘gutting’ to come away with nothing against the Magpies at the weekend – but he was also confident that the club will ‘get a result’ against Norwich City on Saturday.
Does McCarthy sound over confident?
I'm afraid he is
He sounds confident!
A Saints-related page relayed these comments and it got a reaction out of many fans. They aren’t as sure as the £4.5m-rated McCarthy regarding their next fixture.
No guarantees in football I’m afraid. Let’s hope for three points and a buy out ?

Have we not learned from Burnley?#dontaddfueltothefire— Patts (@APatts04) March 10, 2020
After Norwich’s performance in the cup I’m doubtful we’ll get all 3 points. I would take 1 point a game until the end of the season

Looking forward to all the ‘this aged well’ retweets next week?

The recent game against Newcastle saw McCarthy earn a Whoscored rating of 8.77. The game saw the Englishman make as many as six saves in the game, with one being a penalty save from Matt Ritchie.
What do we think?
The game against Norwich is away from home for the Saints. Daniel Farke’s men have lost just one of their last five home games in the Premier League. They recent beat Leicester at Carrow Road in the league and knocked Tottenham out of the FA Cup away from home.
This shows that the game might not be easy for Southampton. But the optimism from McCarthy is certainly good to see.
