A lot of Newcastle United fans have reacted to the news that the first-team squad paid for the Toon’s kitman George Ramshaw to get hip replacement surgery.
Andy Carroll drove the idea, and the players raised £15,000 between them to fund Mr Ramshaw’s treatment.
Newcastle’s kitman has been with the club for 25 years and needed the surgery but faced a long wait on an NHS list.
Steve Bruce has revealed that the players decided to gather the funds to allow Mr Ramshaw to have the surgery at a private hospital.
Do you agree with what the players did?
Yes, lovely gesture
No, club should have paid for it
Bruce confirmed that Mr Ramshaw is back at the club now fully healed.
This story has gone down well with these Newcastle fans.
The #NUFC players, driven by Andy Carroll, organised a whip round and raised £15,000 to pay for club kitman George Ramshaw’s hip replacement surgery.
Brilliant! https://t.co/pBlVj5hHZo

I can’t believe people are whinging at this, or saying the club should’ve done it. Probably not fully understanding the implications of a club/private business paying medical bills for employees! It is a sweet gesture, and something I hope to see more of.

Other Toon fans, though, want to know why the club didn’t pay for it, or why the players needed to have a whip-round.
Nice story but shouldn’t the club have already done this for him ?

nice gesture but did they really need a whip round for £15k considering the wages most of them are on.
it would be like us have a whip round in the office to buy a mars bar.

Surely club could of paid for it

Surely the club provide private medical insurance for staff at a higher level, I don’t expect the programme sellers and turnstile operators to be covered but howay man !

What do we think?
This is a lovely gesture from the first-team squad, and to us, it shows that the Toon appreciates Mr Ramshaw.
It is also good to hear that he is back at the club and on the way to recovery.
