Fans of Manchester City have been reacting on Twitter to the news that City’s Premier League fixture against Arsenal on Wednesday evening has been postponed.
Following the confirmation that Nottingham Forest and Olympiakos owner Evangelos Marinakis has tested positive for coronavirus, precautions have been taken by clubs who could have potentially come into contact with the Greek national.
Arsenal have recently confirmed that an unspecified number of players met Marinakis after their Europa League tie on 27th February and that those players are now in self-isolation.
As such, the Premier League game between Manchester City and Arsenal has now been postponed, so that the North London club have time to fully assess the situation.
The Premier League said in a statement: “Following medical advice, Arsenal FC and Manchester City FC consider it is necessary to postpone their fixture due to be played this evening to give time to fully assess the situation. The Premier League has therefore agreed that tonight’s game will be rearranged.”
In reaction to the news, fans of Manchester City have taken to Twitter, with many stating that the Premier League has made a sensible decision in cancelling the fixture, while others have commented on the overall impact that coronavirus has had on the 2019/20 season.

What do we think?
Speaking purely from a footballing perspective, the coronavirus outbreak poses a very real threat to the operation of the Premier League, as well as continental tournaments such as the Europa League and Champions League.
As things stand, Chelsea’s Champions League match with Bayern Munich is due to be played behind closed doors, as well as Wolves’, Manchester United’s and Rangers’ Europa League ties, while Manchester City and Arsenal’s fixture is the first Premier League fixture to be called off due to the virus.
