Aston Villa fans have been responding on Twitter to the latest reports regarding the future of English football.
This comes after Villa fan Twitter account @villareport shared a post on their page that contained news originally posted in a report by David Ornstein in The Athletic.
The report claimed that the “possibility of football matches taking place inside empty stadiums in England appears to be gathering momentum, with the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) revealing most of its members accept there is now no alternative” this season.
Is there any point in playing games behind closed doors during this period?
Yes
No
This post then quickly gathered a number of replies from Villa fans who were keen to have their say on this latest development.
Here’s a sample of Villa fans responding to the post:

Clutching at straws. Not a chance will they resume any time soon

That might suit Villa as they’ve spent three-quarters of the season keeping 2-meters apart from the opposition but as a general rule, how can 22 men on a football pitch not be a ‘gathering’?

Yes there is an alternative, Void . players , staff etc lives are at risk .

As a result of the current global pandemic, all professional football across the country has been suspended until the end of April at the earliest (per BBC Sport). Now that it has been reported that the Premier League could possibly return and have the remaining games played behind closed doors, this news has not gone down well with these Villa fans.
Villa defence have been safe distancing for weeks now

Players, staff and officials are not immune, don’t see how it’s possible.

Rubbish. It’s ridiculous. Just cancel the season and have done with it.

What do we think?
These Villa fans are quite right to pick holes in this latest reported news regarding the return of the Premier League. Having games played behind closed doors may not put the fans at risk but the same cannot be said for the players and club staff at the games.
