Some West Brom fans have been praising the ‘excellent’ form of left-back Conor Townsend on social media following West Brom’s 3-0 win over Bristol City last Saturday.
Townsend earned an impressive overall rating of 8.39 on WhoScored.com for his performance at the weekend. Only Hal Robson-Kanu, who scored two goals in last weekend’s game versus Bristol City, managed to earn a higher WhoScored rating than Townsend in West Brom’s dominant win last Saturday.
WhoScored credits Townsend with making a total of nine successful tackles in Saturday’s game, while maintaining a 100% tackle success rate. Furthermore, the left-back also made two interceptions.
Towsend has been enjoying an extended run in the West Brom team of late. The 26-year-old has started nine of the Baggies’ last 10 games in all competitions, as fellow Baggies’ left-back Kieran Gibbs suffered a hamstring injury in the Baggies’ 1-1 draw with Leeds United on New Year’s Day, which has since kept him out of action.
West Brom’s official Twitter account made a post appreciating Townsend’s recent contributions to the first team, stating that the left-back has been “excellent in recent weeks”. He’s been unreal the last few weeks. I’ve been a critic at times this season but when you look back and evaluate maybe he shouldn’t be criticised similar with Johnstone both got big shoes to fill in Foster and Gibbs and problem is we can’t expect them to be neat those levels

Townsend has been delivering particularly impressive performances in recent weeks. The 26-year-old has received an overall rating of over 7.0 in four of his last five Championship appearances.
Furthermore, the left-back earned Whoscored’s Man of the Match award for his performance in West Brom’s 2-0 win over Luton Town earlier this month, while he also scored the only goal of the game in West Brom’s 1-0 FA Cup win over West Ham in January.
Townsend may have earned an increased amount of admiration from the Baggies faithful with his impressive performances at left-back of late.
