After Rangers managed to beat Hamilton 4-1 this weekend, the scoreline suggested a dominant performance from Steven Gerrard’s side. But the one goal scored by Hamilton indicates that their overall performance wasn’t quite perfect, with Lewis Smith equalising in the 38th minute.
Many Rangers fans think that George Edmundson was at fault for the Hamilton goal. After the match, they took to Twitter to question if the player was ready to make the jump to a starting position in Steven Gerrard’s side, suggesting Nikola Katic was a much more obvious first choice. It appears as though they have little patience for mistakes when it comes to their centre-backs.

They’re both Rangers players. Katic distribution has harmed us in recent matches. Edmondson didn’t have his best game Saturday.

I think this kind of decision making is overthinking things, not only that but it damages Katics confidence. Katic isn’t responsible for the midfields lack of ability. Of course he can help but his duty is to keep clean sheets and he’s better than Edmundson at that.

Edmundson is terrible. Really slow, not good in possession, this A to C thing just means he lumps it because he panics. Not a good look. Hope Katic is back in sooner rather than later.

I can see Edmundson get the hook here.
Truly all over the place. Awful.— Super Rangers (@WATPTrump2020) February 8, 2020
Horses for courses I think. Edmundson doesn’t look as dominating in the air as Katic for example, so you might see him against Aberdeen/Livi and possibly the Europa games too.

Who do you think deserves to start?
Edmundson
Katic
One fan recognises that although both Katic and Edmundson make mistakes, they are both great players.
Both Katic and Edmundson are real good prospects, yes both make errors, but both also have lots of positives to their game. Two of my favourite players.

What do we think?
The criticism of Edmundson, who is valued at £630k (as per Transfermarkt), is certainly harsh. If the player continues making mistakes, then perhaps this kind of criticism would be warranted. For now, however, the Rangers supporters should have faith that Edmundson will come through. At just 22 years of age, the player will certainly make more mistakes throughout his career.
