Some Bristol City fans have been reacting with joy on social media after the club’s official Twitter account posted footage of Benik Afobe after his “first day” back at training following his early-season injury.

Last Wednesday, bristolpost.co.uk reported that Bristol City manager Lee Johnson had claimed that Benik Afobe was “looking to come back into the group on Monday”. Judging by footage posted by the Robins’ official Twitter account on Monday evening, it appears that all went according to plan and Afobe’s return to training did indeed occur on Monday.

Bristol City’s Twitter account posted footage on Monday evening which features a short message from the 27-year-old forward, in which he states “first day done, good to be back”.

BBC Sport reported that Afobe was “expected to miss the rest of the Championship season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury” in September. However, the new footage showing Afobe’s return to training may have excited some Bristol City fans who have been anticipating the 27-year-old’s early return to the pitch.

Some Robins supporters have shared their excitement over Afobe’s message from the footage taken after his return to training on social media. Read the positive responses of some Bristol City fans to the latest footage of the attacker in the tweets below.

What do we think?

Afobe is currently on a season-long loan with Bristol City. The 27-year-old has only managed to make five Championship appearances for the Robins. However, he did manage to impress the Bristol City faithful in the short amount of game time that he has enjoyed with the club so far.

Scoring three goals in his five Bristol City appearances this season, the Democratic Republic of Congo international also earned an average overall rating of 7.15 over his five Championship appearances for Bristol City this season. Only one other Bristol City player, Famara Diédhiou, has earned a higher average overall rating than Afobe this season.

Considering the impact he made in his short amount of time on the pitch for the Robins, it may be fair to claim, as one Bristol City supporter did in their tweet, that Afobe may “be like a new signing” upon his return to action.
