Supporters of West Ham United have been discussing whether or not selling Cheikhou Kouyate to Crystal Palace for £11 million was a mistake.
With the question posed to supporters by West Ham Gossip, some fans of the Hammers felt that the sale of the player was not the mistake, but more who the club replaced him with.

Which was the bigger mistake by West Ham in the summer of 2018?Selling Kouyate to Crystal PalaceNot adequately replacing him |
During his time with the Hammers, the Senegalese midfielder featured in 147 games, in which he bagged a decent return of 15 goals and ten assists (as per Transfermarkt).
He then departed West Ham for the Eagles in the summer of 2018 (per BBC), and while some felt the failure to replace him was the mistake, others felt that he should never have been allowed to leave.
100% yes. I think he got a raw deal from a small selection of the fans and did not deserve the treatment he got. He was versatile and gave everything… He was sacrificed over Obiang (who infact was a worse player).

What do we think?
This season, the 30-year-old midfielder has a fairly uninspiring 6.69/10 match rating (per WhoScored), in a Palace side which is four positions and six points better off than the Hammers in the Premier League table (as per BBC).
As Kouyate’s average rating is very similar to Mark Noble’s (6.63/10 as per WhoScored), it seems unlikely that the Senegal international would be having too much of a positive impact at the London Stadium.
