Spurs fans were intrigued to hear some of the thoughts of Jan Vertonghen’s agent on Twitter this week.
The agent of the 32-year-old Spurs defender spoke to the press, saying: “Jan is still super happy at Spurs and loves London. He is still very committed. We haven’t reached an agreement as yet, but we don’t rule out anything. There’s interest in him as a free agent, but Spurs is a very interesting option.” per HLN Sport (via Daily Hotspur)
The former Ajax man was pictured looking upset after he was substituted during Spurs’ 3-2 win over Southampton in midweek, but his agent has seemingly reassured fans that there is not much to worry about. The Belgian international’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season and while he may want to sign a new deal with the club, it seems as if there hasn’t been any sort of offer from the North London side as of yet.
Do you think Vertonghen will leave Spurs in the summer?
Yes
No

There’s no way he’s gonna get more money from Levy after his performances of late… should’ve signed that contract last year

If he is happy on the same wage and being a backup to the first team then there’s no harm in a 1 year deal again but I think his time as a key player for a top 6 club is now over.

These Spurs fans clearly don’t want to see Vertonghen leave at the end of the season and hope that a new contract can yet be negotiated.
What do we think?
If Vertonghen was willing to accept a significantly lower wage in order to stay on then it could represent excellent business for Spurs, as the £16.2 million rated man has a lot of experience and is clearly beloved by the majority of Spurs fans.
