Spurs fans were disappointed to hear that the club reportedly have a heavy interest in signing Manchester United defender Chris Smalling in the summer.
The England international has spent this season on loan with Roma in Serie A and the Italian side have reportedly offered €15 million (£12.85 million), although United are holding out for €20 million (£17.1 million) per Calcio Mercato via The Spurs Web. The report also suggests that Spurs are continuing to monitor the 30-year-old, who has averaged an impressive 7.19 rating for his performances in Serie A so far this season.
The former Fulham defender has plenty of experience in the Premier League, having made 219 appearances in England’s top division, scoring 12 goals in the process. He also has plenty of international experience with England, having earned 31 caps during his career – so he could prove to be an experienced replacement for Jan Vertonghen, who could be due to leave the North London club with his contract expiring this summer.
Would Smalling be a good signing for Spurs?

These Spurs fans clearly aren’t too impressed with the link to Smalling and will be hoping that the club don’t follow up on their reported interest in the defender.
What do we think?
Smalling has shown in his impressive performances with Roma that he can be a very decent defender, and considering Spurs’ defensive woes so far this season – with the North London side having kept just four clean sheets in the league – perhaps the £18 million-rated man wouldn’t be the worst signing.
