Liverpool could offer Virgil van Dijk a contract extension in the summer that will see him become the world’s best-paid defender, according to the Daily Mirror. Their report claims the success of the Anfield club both on and off the field means the Reds have announced record levels of revenue from TV rights, commercial agreements and the stadium income.
The 28-year-old, who signed for Liverpool from Southampton back in January 2018 for a reported fee of £76.19m still has until June 2023 on his current contract (via Transfermarkt.co.uk).

What do we think?
Judging by the responses, it’s clear that the fans would be in favour of handing the £90m-rated defender an extended and improved contract. Liverpool need just four more wins to wrap up the Premier League title (as per BBC Sport), starting at Vicarage Road on Saturday evening when they take on Watford. The ever-present Van Dijk has clearly been a major part of Liverpool’s success this season, therefore it is no surprise that fans feel this way about him.
