Spurs fans were frustrated to hear Jose Mourinho’s latest thoughts on Troy Parrott amidst the North London club’s lack of options up front.
Mourinho’s side were already without a senior recognised striker following the injury to Harry Kane last month, but have now lost backup striker Heung-Min Son through a fractured arm. However, the 57-year-old manager has reiterated his belief that Parrott is not ready for first-team football and Alasdair Gold confirmed to fans on Twitter that the Republic of Ireland international was not training with the rest of the squad ahead of Spurs’ Champions League tie against RB Leipzig.
Spurs will presumably back Lucas Moura to play as a striker for the foreseeable future, with the former PSG man having featured seven times in that position already this season. It is perhaps a surprise that Parrott was not sent out on loan during the January transfer window, as Mourinho’s unwillingness to trust the 18-year-old suggests that his development will be stilted if he continues to be ignored at the North London club.
Should Parrott be given a chance in the first team?
Yes
No
Reaction from Spurs fans to Gold’s tweet on Parrott can be seen in the tweets below.
Even just as an option it’d be good to have him training at least.
He did well in preseason vs top European players— days without a striker (@MattyFrench82) February 18, 2020
As per usual not dealing with our striker issue has burnt us yet again… ENIC thought we could rely on Son and Moura to play 90mins 2/3 games a week until the end of the season without injury is a complete joke. There is zero ambition apart from making ££

I think Jose might just have to change his mind on Parrott, I just pray he doesn’t try to play Moura or Dele as an out n out striker. Give Parrott the chance he deserves & he may just surprise Jose with how good he is/can become

Surely @troyparrott9 should be out there training being the only striker club have, unless of course he’s got a mysterious niggle that the club have not made public.

Strange one. Parrott looked really comfortable in pre season games and has had a call up to the Eire squad too. Scores goals for fun. Yet both Poch and Jose reluctant to use him

These Spurs fans are clearly a bit confused as to why Parrott isn’t at least training with the squad and are perhaps hoping that Mourinho changes his mind on the youngster.
What do we think?
It seems strange that Parrott has made just one substitute appearance in the Premier League this season and you feel as if his talent will continue to be wasted unless he gets a chance in the first-team in the near future.
