Football.London journalist Alasdair Gold has been discussing some of Spurs’ potential transfer targets in an article this week but was quick to rule out any move for Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho and RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner.

In a Q and A session with fans, Gold answered a question from one fan on Twitter asking whether the North London club would make a move for either Sancho or Werner in the summer transfer window. Gold was fairly strong in his response that it is unlikely that Spurs will make a move for either of the Bundesliga talents, saying:

“Sancho will be out of Tottenham’s price range. You’re looking at a £100million plus player now in the talented young England international.

Werner is a slightly different case in that he reportedly has a release clause this summer which makes him available at a low cost, some reports claiming it’s as low as £30million. However, with that talent and that minor price tag will come competition galore and Europe’s top clubs will come calling with wage offers that will dwarf any Tottenham’s offer.” (per Football London live blog – 13:48).

In an ideal world, who would you rather sign?

It is no surprise to see Gold rule out a move for Sancho, considering the 19-year-old is currently valued at £108 million by transfermarkt and has enjoyed an extremely successful season so far; contributing 12 goals and 13 assists in the Bundesliga. Spurs are also well-stocked in the wing position, with the likes of Heung-Min Son, Steven Bergwijn, Lucas Moura and Erik Lamela all naturals in that role.

With regards to Werner, Gold suggests that the RB Leipzig man “can play out wide if need be but he will want to the main man and I’m not sure Spurs can offer that or the wages to be competitive with others.” (per Football London live blog – 13:48). It seems unlikely therefore that either of Werner or Sancho will be making the move to North London any time soon.
