Some Southampton fans have been fuming at Heung-Min Son’s potential dive in the Saints’ 3-2 loss to Tottenham in the FA Cup on Wednesday.

The South Korean was on the scoresheet for Spurs in the fourth-round replay, as he slotted away a penalty late in the game to win the tie. Tottenham had taken the lead through a Jack Stephens own-goal, only to be pegged back by goals from Shane Long and Danny Ings. But a late comeback from Jose Mourinho’s men saw Lucas Moura and Son get a goal each.

Should Son be banned for diving?

However, the manner in which Son won the penalty has left many Saints fans raging. They feel he had dived to win the spot-kick.

Southampton have already beaten Son’s Tottenham in the Premier League this season. It was Ings who had scored in that game and it was the same game in which Harry Kane sustained a serious hamstring injury.

As things stand, Southampton are 13th in the Premier League table with 31 points. The gap between them and Spurs is just six points, even though Jose Mourinho’s men are fifth.

As for Son, he boasts a very good record against Southampton. He has played 11 games against them, scoring six goals and racking up three assists.

What do we think?

Southampton fans have a reason to be unhappy with Son. But it is still inconclusive whether he dived or not. Though with their team out of the cup, Saints fans have every right to be angry.
