Some Southampton fans have been rating the sort of season Danny Ings has had as their campaign enters a temporary break.

The Saints find themselves at 13th in the Premier League table currently, seven points clear of the relegation zone. Danny Ings has contributed to 45% of the club’s goals this season – the highest contribution from a player to their club’s goals so far across the top flight.

Does Ings deserve a 10/10?

He absolutely does

Nope, not really

A Saints-related page asked fans about what sort of a season Ings has had and how highly they would rate it. Some fans had high praise for the former Liverpool striker.

So far this season, Ings has scored 17 times in all competitions for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men. 14 of those goals have come in the Premier League, where he has played 25 games so far.

The Englishman’s move to St. Mary’s was made permanent in the summer of 2019 for a fee of £20 million. He was on loan at the club last season, recording a tally of only seven Premier League goals in 24 games for the side.

What do we think?

As per Understat, Ings has out-performed his expected goals ratio by 3.79. It is the first time in his Premier League career that he has reached such figures and it shows how he seems to have finally come of age. Contributing to 45% of his side’s goals is no joke, either. If not for him, Southampton may well have been in the relegation dogfight. He probably deserves a 10/10 for his efforts this year.
