A lot of Newcastle United fans reacted to a tweet by Craig Hope about who the next Newcastle Under-23s boss was going to be.
On Tuesday, the Daily Mail reporter claimed that the Toon were going to appoint Chris Hogg, who is a former Hibernian defender born in Middlesbrough and currently a coach at Ipswich’s academy.
Hope also said that he has a good reputation.
Newcastle confirmed that Hogg had been appointed the new Under-23s head coach on Wednesday afternoon.
Would this be a good move?
Yes
No idea
Hogg made 150 appearances for Hibs as well as playing for Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
Newcastle had been without a permanent manager for their Under-23 side since Neil Redfearn left the club in November.
Ben Dawson had been in charge since and actually did a rather good job, guiding the Toon to seventh place in the Premier League 2 Division Two table.
This news of Hogg’s appointment has drawn a lot of responses from these Toon fans.
Word is that Chris Hogg is in line for Newcastle U23s job. Ex Hibs defender. Boro born. 34 year old. Now coach at Ipswich academy. Seems to have good reputation #nufc

Does Ben Dawson not want it? Closing in on the play offs, seems a strange one to replace him

What do we think?
It does seem strange that Newcastle have replaced Dawson now rather than giving him until the end of the season.
It will be interesting to see how the new man gets on.
