Who would have thought relying on a footballer who doesn’t play football would backfire.

Previously a chronic ankle, now an undiagnosed injury after volleying a football (hip flexor/quad/groin?). I think he’s done at this level sadly but hope I’m proved wrong

What do we think?
The 31-year-old has not played since the Toon’s third-round replay with Rochdale in the FA Cup and is missing with a hip injury.
This leaves Newcastle with Dwight Gayle and Yoshinori Muto as their only fit strikers as Joelinton is a doubt (09:33) for the Toon’s trip to Crystal Palace.
The Eagles have not won in eight and have scored the least goals in the league.
Meanwhile, Newcastle have only won one league game since Christmas and have scored the second least goals in the league.
So, it might not be a goal fest on Saturday but the Toon will hope either Gayle or Muto can get their first Premier League goal of the season.
