Liverpool fans have been responding on Twitter to comments made by Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.
This comes after @LivEchoLFC shared a post on their official Twitter page relaying quotes made by the midfielder in an interview with Fantasy PL (via the Liverpool Echo).
The German revealed the reason why he made the move to Manchester back in 2016 instead of following his former Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp to Liverpool.
Should Liverpool have signed Gundogan in 2016?
Yes
No
Gundogan, who is valued at £45 million (as per Transfermarkt), claimed he chose City to move out of his comfort zone and work with a new manager.
This post then gathered a lot of replies from Liverpool fans who were eager to share their thoughts on this latest revelation.

Who cares. Only he knows if he made the wrong decision at the peak of his years.

The German was signed to Dortmund by Klopp in 2011 before making the move to the Premier League with City. During his time at the reigning Premier League champions, Gundogan has scored 22 goals and provided 21 assists in 149 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side (per Transfermarkt). Now that it has been revealed that Gundogan didn’t want to follow Klopp to Anfield, some Liverpool fans are thankful he made the decision not to join the club.
City fans don’t rate him. Can’t say I’m that bothered he joined them instead of us.

Actually I think you ran after a big contract which is understandable, no need for any other excuse.

He’s a serious player. However don’t think he’d really fit our system now anyways #LFC

What do we think?
Given that Gundogan has won seven trophies during his time as a City player, it would be hard to assume that the German made a mistake in not joining the Reds. It’s fair enough that Gundogan wanted to play under a different manager than Klopp, and his success playing under Pep Guardiola seems to suggest that decision has paid off.
