Supporters of Everton have reacted to David Coote being appointed as the man in charge for the visit of Crystal Palace, as relayed by Adam Jones.
For the clash on Saturday, Coote will be the referee having only officiated one prior Everton game this season, the 1-0 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion (as per Soccerway), which some fans were not pleased about.
David Coote will officiate Everton's clash with Crystal Palace this weekend at Goodison Park
His only other Blues match this season was the 1-0 win over Brighton, which included *that* Walcott penalty incident

Same ref, when the ball hit him in open play, who waved play on despite the new law stopping play for an uncontested drop-ball for the other team

And Ancelotti should remind everyone of this in his press conference later this week. Let’s put him under as much pressure as possible.

If you had a button that would completely remove VAR from football immediately, would you push it?Yes, it is absolutely terribleNo, it's a work in progress |
As the journalist who shared the news mentioned, the Everton game for which Coote was previously at the helm for involved penalty controversy (per Adam Jones).
With Theo Walcott appearing to be fouled in the Seagulls’ box, a penalty was not given as he did not go to ground (as per Liverpool Echo), which had Everton fans thinking he would be making amends against the Eagles.
I’m sure he’ll make up for that by given Palace a penalty for less.

Couldn’t control that game. Remember Richarlison getting ragged by Lewis and dunk and not one booking until about the 80th minuet

Sounds promising. Mind you Michael Oliver was even more at fault as VAR official . How he didn’t think it was a pen when he could watch in slow motion as often as he liked defies belief .

What do we think?
Thankfully, the decision against Brighton in early January did not, ultimately, cost the Toffees any points due to Richarlison’s fantastic solo finish (per BBC).
Hopefully, as Coote heads back to Goodison Park for the first time since, VAR will keep itself out of the headlines.
