Some Celtic fans have been left to hail their youngster Luca Connell following his performance in a game for Celtic Reserves recently.
The Hoops’ reserves were up against Rangers’ reserve side on Tuesday. The tie ended 1-1 on the day, with the Gers grabbing a late equaliser through Ciaran Dickson. For Celtic though, it was Luca Connell who got a goal to initially give his side the lead.
Should Luca Connell play in the first-team?
Not yet
He can surely do a job
When the Celtic Academy’s Twitter account posted an update about Connell’s goal, it got many Celtic fans talking. They made their delight very clear.

Liverpool-born Connell had joined Celtic from Bolton Wanderers on a four-year deal in the summer of 2019. So far this season, he’s yet to make a single appearance for the club’s first team. He did make two appearances in the midfield for the club’s Reserves side in the Challenge Cup. He played a total of 166 minutes in the two games.
Connell did play in the Championship for Bolton last season. He had made ten appearances in the league, also playing twice in the FA Cup for the Lancashire-based side.
What do we think?
Celtic did sign Ismaila Soro from Bnei Yehuda in the winter transfer window, adding more depth to their midfield. While that does push a player like Connell further down the pecking order, at 18, he just needs to keep coming up with good performances and he will get a chance.
