Aston Villa: Fans react to referee appointment for Carabao Cup final

Aston Villa fans have flocked to Twitter to react to the latest referee announcement ahead of their Carabao Cup final against Manchester City. 

This comes after the official Carabao Cup Twitter account shared a post on their page announcing that Lee Mason will take charge of the final at Wembley next month.

This post then gathered a lot of replies from Villa fans who were not best pleased with this latest news.

Dean Smith’s side earned their place in the final after beating Leicester City 2-1 in the second leg of their semi-final clash at Villa Park. A last-gasp Trezeguet goal made the difference to set up the final against Pep Guardiola’s side in March. Now that it has been announced that Mason will be the man to take charge of the final, some Villa fans have been sharing their thoughts on the situation.

What do we think?

It seems a bit harsh to criticise the referee before the match has even been played. No one will know how the match will play out or how the referee will affect the game. The best thing the Villa fans can do now is to focus on their team’s efforts of winning the match. In regards to each side’s Premier League position, with Villa hovering above the relegation zone in 17th place and City in 2nd place, Smith’s side will need to put in a big performance to beat the current Premier League champions.
