Shaun Wright-Phillips enraged QPR fans following an interview with talkSPORT on Wednesday, in which he discussed what went wrong during his spell with the club.

In the interview, the former Chelsea and Manchester City man said: “I always felt like the team was put together with a lot of big players. I don’t think the players that were, including myself in this as well, brought into QPR weren’t bought to suit QPR.

“They were bought based on previous and past performances. If you have that much money you have to spend it wisely, regardless of their name.”

He continued: “Say if you buy Samba, you need to buy players at the back that suit the way Samba plays so that they can communicate and balance off each other. The same through the midfield and the same in the attack. You have to build a team that is going to gel together.”

“When I was at QPR there were individual good performances but very rarely was there consistently amazing team performances, and that’s where I think, personally, it went wrong with QPR.”

Upon hearing their former players comments, QPR fans took to social media to voice their anger, with many claiming the former England international’s remarks were hypocritical.

What do we think?

Considering Wright-Phillips only managed two goals in his 74 games for the Rs, his comments do seem a little rich.

However, to his credit, he does mention himself in his criticism, but it is safe to say that if QPR fans had any happy memories of SWP at Loftus Road, they may now well be forgotten.
