West Brom are looking likely to sign Callum Robinson before the end of the January transfer window.

According to a report by Express and Star, Slaven Bilic is keen to bring in two more attacking options, with Robinson likely to be signed before the end of the transfer window in a couple of days.

The deal for Robinson is said to be a loan deal, with Bilic’s aim to bring in another forward option on a permanent basis (Express and Star).

However, Premier League side Wolves are also said to be set to make a £2m bid for Robinson which could make a loan deal harder to complete (Daily Mail, transfer blog 10:57, 27th January).

Who is Callum Robinson?

Robinson started his career at Aston Villa, playing for their U18s and U23s before finally get his spot in the first-team (Transfermarkt).

However, the 23-year-old spent most of his time on loan at either Preston or Bristol City. The Irishman would later join Preston on a free transfer in July 2016 after having several loan spells at the club (Transfermarkt).

This would turn out to be a great bit of financial business for Preston, because in July 2019 Sheffield United swooped in a bought Robinson for a whopping £7.02m – a decent bit of business from the Lilywhites (Transfermarkt).

So far this season, the 24-year-old has played 16 matches in the Premier League for the Blades, scoring just once but managing to assist on two occasions. Not the greatest of form, but it’s important to remember that these stats are from the league above West Brom (Transfermarkt).

Verdict

We feel Robinson could be a useful rotation striker for West Brom and with the deal said to be a loan spell, the next six months or so could play a huge role in whether the Republic of Ireland international has a chance of securing a permanent switch to The Hawthorns in the summer.
