Alfredo Morelos has been in fine form this season. He has scored 28 goals in 35 appearances for the Gers in all competitions. Jermain Defoe has also been scoring goals at an impressive rate, netting 15 in 27 appearances. But while Rangers fans have strikers who can score goals for fun, the fans are convinced they need to add another clinical goalscorer to their lineup.
With Defoe at 37 years of age, and Morelos rumoured for a summer move to the Premier League, the position of centre-forward at Rangers is a precarious one. Luckily for Steven Gerrard and his recruitment team, the fans have already found the team a replacement in Lawrence Shankland. The 24-year-old Glaswegian found the back of the net in his side’s clash with Hibernian this weekend, bringing his season goal-scoring tally to 25 goals in 25 games (transfermarkt hasn’t updated to show the match against Hibernian at time of writing). It is no surprise why fans rate him so highly.

I’d have that Shankland at us all day long, obv no gonny start ahead or be Morelos’ eventual replacement but I think he’s a crackin player

Could Shankland replace Morelos in the long run?
Yes
No
One fan admits that, while the move to bring him in might be a gamble, it would be a gamble worth taking. Another fan thinks Shankland could be a much better signing than someone like Kris Boyd.
Lawrence Shankland is a bagsman. Rangers should take a gamble on him imo

The thing with Shankland is he would score a load for a team like us v the dross like Kris Boyd but hes nowhere near the ability to play in the system we use.

What do we think?
With Shankland being valued at £405,000, going after the player would be relatively low risk. If he could continue his impressive scoring rate after moving to the Gers, it would be an incredible bit of business. Only time will tell before we find out if Gerrard has the striker in his plans as well.
