Some Celtic fans have been left livid by a refereeing decision from their Scottish Cup win against Partick Thistle in the fourth round of the competition.

The Hoops are now into the fifth round of the competition and they were drawn with Clyde in yesterday’s draw. The game against Partick Thistle saw Leigh Griffiths score a goal, with Callum McGregor also scoring a goal of his own. Thistle pulled one back in the stoppage time of the second-half, with Stuart Bannigan scoring from the spot.

Celtic fans: Does Scotland need VAR?

We desperately need it

We desperately need it

VAR is a farce

VAR is a farce

A decision from the game has left Celtic fans seething. McGregor was deemed offside and a photo capture was posted on Twitter by a Hoops-related account called ‘Dom Shiv7’. The image left many Celtic fans fuming.

The game saw Griffiths and McGregor score, despite the controversy regarding the offside. McGregor scored his seventh goal of the season, racking up a tally of four assists well in the whole season. In the Premiership, the Scotsman has made 20 appearances for the Hoops and has a tally of three goals.

As for Griffiths, the goal against Partick Thistle was his fourth of the campaign. It was his first goal since he returned to fitness after having suffered a hamstring injury early in the season.

In the Premiership, the Hoops are at the top of the league. But Rangers, who beat them in the Old Firm derby before the end of the year, are only two points behind them and winning their game in hand will see them go to the top.

What do we think?

It clearly wasn’t offside and the images clearly go onto show that. But having said that, the Scottish game needs VAR now. These decisions can’t keep happening and considering how clear the decision was, it screams out for the need for VAR.
