Yesterday Rangers announced that Andy Firth was renewing his contract with the Glaswegian club. His one-year extension will keep him at the club until the summer of 2021. But while the Gers are eager to keep him around, Firth hasn’t seen a minute of football this season. In fact, the most involved he has been was as an unused substitute on six separate occasions

When they heard this news, fans were quick to make fun of the situation. One fan even suggests that Firth be made an honorary mascot so he can feel the experience of walking out with the first-team onto the pitch. Another fan jokes that he has basically just renewed his season ticket.

What do we think?

Of course, having seen no football this season, it’s quite a surprise to see him extend his stay. Perhaps the contract extension is a sign that Firth is still in Steven Gerrard’s plans going forward?
