In their last game of the decade, Charlton Athletic lost to Derby County in the Championship. The 2-1 loss will disappoint fans with the team sitting just seven points above the relegation zone (Sky Sports).
At the final whistle, the club posted the score, calling their team ‘injury-ravaged’ (Charlton Athletic). Fans weren’t having any of the club’s excuses. They don’t think the club were good enough to win the game and the performance was poor. Another fan claims that the starters who did play weren’t good enough either.
Don’t go down that route, all for sticking up for our lot with the situation last few weeks but we’ve thrown that away today, was more than capable getting a result against a very poor Derby side

Absolute shambles of a performance. Feel sorry for bowyer having to go on with half a squad but what was the game plan today because we created next to nothing and the defending was truly pathetic

Can’t keep using injury’s we was playing against 10 men for 75 mins and they still find away to score the defending is a joke…. that’s 13 games this season we have conceded 2 goals in a game!!!! Think it’s clear most of these ain’t up to the task of the championship

Yes, we have injury’s, but the players on the pitch who are fine are uncreative and lazy, injury’s are only a small part in why we are playing so bad, bowyer needs to stop looking at new strikers to bring in because that’s not our problem it’s our DEFENCE..

Are Charlton Athletic at risk of facing a relegation battle?
Yes
No
Other fans point out that the club must make moves in the transfer window if they want to stay up in the league.
Got what we deserved. Not good enough. No excuses for the goals. V v poor. Need to get more players in. Otherwise relegation battle is on the cards

No excuses, we didn’t deserve anything from this game, we urgently need some midfielders back, missing Cullen, Williams and even oztumer massively. Let’s get this sale of the club though and roll on January transfer window. We go again on Thursday!

What do we think?
While the club is likely just trying to stick up for its young players, the fans are tired of hearing excuses. They want to see the club return to winning ways. They can’t become complacent in the face of adversity. That will only lead to further failure.
