With Charlton Athletic announcing that Conor Gallagher would be returning to Chelsea after the London club called time on his loan short, fans would have been devastated. The player has scored six goals and assisted three more in his 26 league appearances for the Addicks this season.
But after the news broke, Charlton’s new chairman, Matt Southall, tweeted out to fans. He reassured them that new deals were being worked on and that improvements to the club would be made imminently. Many fans were glad to hear that the chairman was looking to make investments into the squad. One fan admits that he is nervous for the team. Their frail squad and league position is worrying.

Matt we are really nervous. We barely have a team and we’re in a relegation battle. Who’s gonna play in midfield on Saturday? Please get some numbers in.

This chairman knows how much a signing that isn’t a loan or a free means to us. Players come and go and that’s part of football best of luck to Conor’s future but we move on now #cafc

Shows how important it is to grow and hold onto our own, mr Chairman, so that we aren’t exposed to this risk. We have faith based on your first words, and look forward to seeing the fruits of your labours soon (#AnnounceMaddison would be a great start!)

Do you think Matt Southall will 'get it right' in this transfer window?
Yes
No
Others warn the new chairman that, while he has made a good first impression thus far, he must act quickly before the fans turn on him. His honeymoon period won’t last forever.
Your honeymoon period will be cut short unless your get some decent bodies over the line Matt

After the hellish regime under Roland the Rat, the fact that we have become weaker after loosing Gallagher and the fact that Bowyer still hasn’t signed yet, I’m refusing to get too excited until we see anything officially confirmed.

What do we think?
If Southall can adequately replace Gallagher while making improvements elsewhere in the squad, it could be exactly what the side needs to stay up. If he can achieve that, he will almost certainly have the backing of the fans.
