Some Celtic fans are making it clear that they want to see the club sign Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp in the ongoing January transfer window.

The Hoops drew links with the striker last month (The Sunday post via The Scottish Sun) and they were also linked with Brighton forward Glenn Murray. Sheffield Wednesday striker Jordan Rhodes has also been linked over the last few weeks. The club also drew links with Slovan Bratislava striker Andraz Sporar.

Many Hoops fans were discussing Sharp recently. A page called Celtic1967.com asked fans their opinion about the striker and they made their takes clear. Many of them want the forward at Parkhead.

So far this season, Odsonne Edouard has been the Hoops’ first-choice striker, having made 31 appearances in all competitions for the club. He has found the back of the net 16 times and racking up 15 assists too.

As for Sharp, he has made 13 appearances in all competitions for Sheffield United this season. He has one goal to his name and it came in the club’s opening game of the campaign early on in the season. He has played only 380 minutes of first-team football.

He was a regular for the club upfront in the Championship last season. He got a tally of 24 goals and as many as four assists while making 42 appearances for the Blades.

The 33-year-old has made 255 appearances in all competitions for the club. He has a tally of as many as 103 goals, picking up 31 assists.

What do we think?

Sharp is a veteran and has played the game at multiple levels over the years. With Edouard the first-choice striker at Celtic, they did potentially need a back-up. But since they have now signed Patryk Klimala, their need for a forward has gone. A move for Sharp will not make sense.
