Some Celtic fans have urged the club to complete the permanent capture of Southampton loanee Fraser Forster as soon as possible this month.

The Englishman joined the club from the Saints this past summer and has been a regular between the sticks for the Hoops since joining.

Hoops boss Neil Lennon has previously made it clear that resigning Forster on a permanent basis would be about ‘affordability’. He had also said that ‘he doesn’t know’ if the signature of the Englishman would be in the Hoops’ hands.

Celtic fans: Can the club afford Forster?

But the club’s social media handle posted a video of Forster in training. And fans have made it clear that they want to see Forster’s permanent signature happen as soon as possible.

Forster was crucial for the Hoops in their 2-1 win over Lazio in the UEFA Europa League at the Stadio Olimpico. The Englishman made a total of six saves in the game, also parrying the danger three times while making a parry save twice (as per WhoScored).

So far this season, Forster has played 25 games in all competitions for the Parkhead-based outfit. He has made 18 appearances in the Premiership while keeping a total of 11 clean sheets and letting in nine goals.

Last season, he had fallen down the pecking order at Southampton. Angus Gunn and Alex McCarthy were getting regular football, while Forster had made just a single Premier League appearance. He also made three appearances for the Saints Under-23s side in the Premier League 2.

His first spell at Celtic had seen Forster leave the club in the summer of 2014. The Saints signed him for a fee of £10million.

What do we think?

Forster’s numbers show how important he has been for the club this season. Scott Bain and Craig Gordon are the other two options between the sticks but Forster has shown that he is deserved of a spot ahead of them. He will deserve every bit of the fee Southampton get him for.
