Former Celtic striker Moussa Dembele scored the decisive goal in Lyon’s victory over Bordeaux this weekend. The 23-year-old left Scotland back in the summer of 2018 for a fee believed to be in the region of £19.8m but footage of his most-recent goal has led to many questioning whether or not the money received for his services was sufficient given his undeniable talent.

In response to the video clip posted on Twitter, these Celtic fans heaped praise on their former striker with many appearing to have felt the club were ‘robbed’ when they sold the Frenchman on. Some even felt he was a lot better than current star striker Odsonne Edouard (who has 49 goals in 112 appearances, per TransferMarkt), whilst another suggested he has been their best forward since Henrik Larsson.

Who is the more complete striker?

One fan even called him the best since Henrik Larsson, which is an extremely big statement to make as the Swede managed to produce 33 goals and 11 assists in 56 games for the Hoops.

One fan even described him as similar to former Celtic star Virgil Van Dijk, who made 115 appearances during his time at Parkhead before joining Southampton.

What do we think?

Dembele scored an incredible 51 goals in 94 appearances for the Hoops and at such a young age, it was always going to be extremely difficult to keep him in the Scottish Premier League. The striker was linked with a number of English clubs before eventually making the move back to his native France, but how does his goalscoring record in Scotland compare to that of Edouard’s?

Edouard is yet to score his 50th goal for Celtic but he is just one away from reaching that impressive milestone – however, he has already played more games than Dembele did for the club. The comparison shows evidence there is very little between the two forwards and at just 21-years-old, you cannot rule out Edouard reaching the heights his French compatriot did in the famous green and white strip. Two extremely talented and dynamic strikers, the Celtic faithful are fortunate to have seen represent their club.
