Aston Villa fans have been seething on Twitter over the injury sustained to Wesley against Burnley on Wednesday.
This comes after Villa fan Twitter account @villareport shared a post on their page of two images of the tackle from Burnley’s Ben Mee that injured the Villa striker in their 2-1 win at Turf Moor.
Should Ben Mee have been given a red card for his tackle on Wesley?
Yes
No
This post then led to a number of angry Villa fans replying with their thoughts and feelings on the tackle that ended with Wesley being stretchered off.
Here’s a sample of Villa fans reacting to Mee’s tackle:
Should’ve been off the pitch for this

How is that not a red card via a review of a player is stretched off how on earth do these things not get looked at but the tiniest sliver of a heal offside rules out a goal.

It was a weird one I thought he went in moderately high but not a foul. Stupid burnley fans booing him. Clear there was something wrong when Luiz wouldn’t leave his side

Wesley scored Villa’s first goal of the game and just his fifth goal in the Premier League since his arrival in summer (per TransferMarkt). But when Mee caught the back of Wesley’s leg in a sliding challenge, his game was over prematurely. The images of the tackle made a lot of Villa fans angry on Twitter.
Seen reds given even when winning the ball. Refs are supposed to be clamping down on over aggressive tackling by punishing the follow through. This is a clear mistake by the ref and VAR!

Horrific tackle

How this isn’t seen as endangering an opponent I don’t know. VAR yet again

Shocking tackle. Surely he will get a ban for that. Dirty #avfc

What do we think?
It’s a shame that Wesley had to leave the pitch after the tackle from Mee after scoring earlier in the match. Given the lack of punishment for Mee, it comes as no surprise that so many Villa fans aren’t happy with the tackle as it appears as if he certainly didn’t hold back, with the forward now set for a scan.
