Some Southampton fans have made it clear that they don’t want their club to re-sign former midfielder Adam Lallana in the January transfer window.

Lallana, a former England international, is currently at Liverpool and his current deal at Anfield expires in the summer of 2020. At the end of the season, he will be a free agent and clubs can negotiate a contract with him in January.

Recently, Jurgen Klopp has made it clear that his future is unknown. The German said that while he is now back fit for the Reds, it will not be good to discuss his future publicly.

This has made many Saints fans question as to whether they should bring their former midfielder back after SaintsfcViews on Twitter posed the question to their followers. But some feel that they shouldn’t exercise that option.

Lallana had joined Liverpool from Southampton in the summer of 2014 for a fee of £25 million. He was a Saints captain back then, having made 261 appearances for the club in all competitions. During that time, he scored 59 goals and racked up a tally of 48 assists as well.

Since joining Liverpool, Lallana has played 170 games in all competitions for the Reds. He has scored only 22 times and has a tally of 22 assists. But the Englishman has missed 67 games due to injury since the start of the 2014-15 campaign.

This season, the 31-year-old has made only 14 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool. He has racked up a single goal, assisting twice too. Only five of them have been starts, including the two starts he made in the FIFA Club World Cup games for the club.

What do we think?

Lallana, who is valued at £10.8 million (as per Transfermarkt), is 31 and still, perhaps, slightly injury prone. He is someone who will cost a lot of wages for a club like Southampton unless he does take a big wage-cut. If the Saints want to sign him, they could sign him on loan in January and see him take a potential wage-cut in the summer, should he want to return to the south coast.
