Supporters of Wolverhampton Wanderers have slammed Joao Moutinho following the 2-1 defeat against Watford on New Year’s Day.
After the loss, Tim Spiers tweeted some stats which were intended to praise the Portuguese middleman but mentioned that he needed a rest (per Tim Spiers), which some supporters agreed with but others slated his performance.
Interesting Moutinho stats
– 14th Wolves assist today, most for club in PL
– Been dribbled past more than any Premier League player this season
– But also fourth highest in the tackling chartsProbably needs a rest, but he’s indispensable #wwfc https://t.co/f9deojhm6d

Can give him a rest by stopping him running to the corner flag 12 times a game just to pass it sideways or boot it at the first man.

i love this man, but his corners and set pieces were dreadful today.

Do Wolverhampton Wanderers need midfield reinforcements in the January transfer window?Yes, we're too stretchedNo, we have enough |
So far this term, Wolves’ experienced middleman has an average rating of 7.1/10 (per Whoscored), making him a staple performer in Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.
Across his whopping 33 games in all competitions already this season, the 33-year-old has one goal and 11 assists to his name (per Transfermarkt), making his performance against the Hornets just a bad day at the office.

Sell him

What do we think?
You have to imagine the shout to sell the world-class midfielder was written in jest, as with the standards that the Portuguese maestro has been consistently setting this term, it was just a performance that fell a little short of expectations. Although, WhoScored gave him a rating of 7.11, so perhaps fans are being a bit too harsh.
With the continued involvement in the Europa League and a hectic festive schedule in the Premier League a lot of supporters, and Tim Spiers, are correct in their assessment that the 33-year-old needs a rest.
