Scottish giants Celtic are at the risk of missing out on Tottenham’s Victor Wanyama because of the Kenyan’s wage demands.

The Independent claim that the Hoops have a longstanding interest in the midfielder and want to bring Wanyama back to Parkhead. But they’ve been put off by his £62,000-per-week wage demands and Daniel Levy’s high valuation of the former Hoops star. All this has deterred Celtic from making a potential offer, say the outlet.

Should Celtic break their wage structure for Wanyama?

They also state that Spurs had agreed a £13m deal with Belgian side Genk in the summer of 2019 but the move didn’t go through.

An isolated figure at Spurs

Celtic had sold Wanyama in the summer of 2013, with Southampton having signed him for a fee of £12.5million. The Saints then sold the midfielder to Tottenham in the summer of 2016, as Spurs signed him for a fee of £11million.

So far this season, the Kenyan has made only four appearances in all competitions for Spurs. Only one of his appearances has come under Jose Mourinho when he came on from the bench against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League.

The 2016-17 season was Wanyama’s most productive one of the season. He made 47 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring five times and racking up one assist as well. Spurs had finished second in the Premier League that season.

TIF Tactics

The Hoops have already signed a midfielder in Ivory Coast’s Ismaila Soro. He too, like Wanyama is a defensive midfielder by trade. It means that they might not need Wanyama as much as they did before Soro came. Breaking the bank for Wanyama, in that case, will not make sense.
