Spurs fans were delighted to hear that they are reportedly one of the teams looking at centre-back Samuel Umtiti, with Barcelona seemingly keen to sell the defender this month.
According to the El Desmarque (via Daily Express), Spurs are one of several clubs interesting in signing the Frenchman during the transfer window but will face competition from Arsenal and Manchester United. The Spanish giants are perhaps looking to move on the 26-year-old following an injury-hit spell that has seen him miss 10 games already this season.
Umtiti joined Barcelona from Lyon in 2016 and the defender has gone on to make 105 appearances for the Catalan side in his four years at the club. Injuries have meant that the French international has been limited to just seven appearances so far this season, so it is perhaps no surprise that Barcelona are looking to move him on.

Would be the perfect pairing with Davinson Sánchez. Young, confident with the ball and left-footed. This would be dreamy. But the cost is the main concern here.

These Spurs fans are clearly keen on the signing of Umtiti and will be hoping to see the club make a bid for the Barcelona man this month.
What do we think?
Although Umtiti is a left-sided defender and could potentially be an excellent long-term replacement for Jan Vertonghen; whose contract runs out at the end of the season, his injury record is certainly a concern. Spurs’ defence certainly needs improvement, with the North London club having kept just two clean sheets all season and perhaps a £36 million rated Umtiti could seriously help with that.
