Spurs fans were delighted to hear the reasoning behind Steven Bergwijn choosing the number 23 shirt at the North London club.
Spurs confirmed the signing of Bergiwjn on Wednesday morning and also confirmed that he would take the number 23, which had been vacated following the departure of Christian Eriksen to Inter. However, Football.London journalist Alasdair Gold revealed that it was not about taking the Danish international’s shirt, but more for the “iconic nature of the number in sport, with the likes of LeBron James, Michael Jordan and David Beckham all wearing it.”
Fans were delighted with the attitude of Bergwijn, who had started the season in fantastic form for PSV contributing five goals and 10 assists in just 16 games in the Eredivisie. Fans will no doubt be hoping that he can continue his strong start to the season at his new club and should be available to face Manchester City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.
