Some Spurs fans were delighted to hear that Spurs and Real Madrid have talks planned to discuss a deal for Gareth Bale.

According to the Daily Mail (via Daily Hotspur), the two clubs are planning to negotiate a deal for the 30-year-old winger, which could see him return to the North London club this month. The Welsh international reportedly earns £600,000 a week at the Spanish side, so he would have to take a huge wage cut if he were to make the move to Jose Mourinho’s side.

Bale, who is valued at £36 million (as per Transfermarkt), made the move from Spurs to Real Madrid in 2013 in what was then a world-record deal and has gone on to make 246 appearances; scoring an impressive 105 goals and contributing 67 assists in that time. However, he has fallen out of favour with Zinedine Zidane and has made just 10 starts so far this season after a succession of injuries.

Reaction from Spurs fans to the update on Bale can be seen in the tweets below.

However, a lot of fans are not convinced that the rumour is legitimate and feel that there is little chance of Bale returning this window.

Those that believe the rumour would clearly love to see Bale return to the club this month, although a lot of fans feel that it’s unrealistic to think he might make the move to North London before Friday.

What do we think?

Bale’s wages are, as discussed in the report, a huge problem for Spurs and therefore it is unlikely that he will make the move unless the Welshman takes a huge pay cut.
