Former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson this week named reported Spurs target Edinson Cavani as his ‘perfect’ signing for this month’s transfer window.

In an interview with Football Insider, Robinson discussed the Paris Saint Germain striker, who has been linked with Spurs as well as Chelsea and Manchester United so far this month. Robinson is convinced that the 32-year-old would be an “outstanding” signing for Jose Mourinho’s side should they be able to convince him to make the move to North London this month.

Robinson made 174 appearances for the North London club and earned 41 caps for England during his career, before retiring in 2017.

He said:

“I think Spurs now, the way that things are, it’s a difficult one. Harry Kane, when he comes back he plays, so you’re looking at somebody like Cavani as a short term fix to stay for next year and play a bit-part.”

“At his age, it would be a perfect role for him.

“Next year, having him and Harry Kane in the squad would be outstanding.”

TIF Tactics:

Spurs are, of course, desperate to sign a striker this month following the long-term injury suffered by Harry Kane and Cavani would certainly provide them with an experienced replacement. The Uruguay international has 198 goals in 293 games for PSG and has contributed five goals already this season for Thomas Tuchel’s side, despite predominantly featuring from the bench.

The former Napoli man has struggled with injuries this season, and at 32-years-old, it might not be financially sensible for Spurs to bring the £22.5 million rated man to the Premier League this month. The striker recently handed in a transfer request at PSG so it will be interesting to see whether Spurs do manage to bring him in, but with Manchester United and Chelsea also interested, they may struggle to convince him to join this month.
