Alasdair Gold confirmed to Spurs fans on Twitter that the club will not be making an approach for Southampton’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

With deadline day upon us, Sky Sports revealed that the North London club were interested in signing the Danish international, but the Football.London journalist tweeted that as far as he understood Spurs are not looking to bid for the 24-year-old. The defensive-midfielder, who is now captain of the Saints, originally made the move to the Premier League in 2016 from Bayern Munich and has gone on to make 123 appearances in nearly four years on the south coast.

Hojbjerg is currently valued at £13.5 million by transfermarkt, but should Spurs have bid for the midfielder, you imagine that Ralph Hasenhuttl would have demanded an inflated price, especially with the Saints well in with a chance of finishing in the European spots. Despite Moussa Sissoko’s long-term injury however, it seems as if Spurs are not planning on signing the 24-year-old on deadline day, but as the report from Sky Sports now suggests, could eye up a move for him in the summer.

Are you disappointed that Spurs won't be signing Hojbjerg?

TIF Tactics:

Spurs should be prioritising a striker to replace the injured Harry Kane rather than bringing in another midfielder, especially with them already having signed Giovani Lo Celso and Gedson Fernandes. With Victor Wanyama seemingly surplus to requirements and Eric Dier out of form, perhaps Hojbjerg wouldn’t have been the worst signing for Spurs, especially considering his strengths of aerial duels and interceptions.

The young midfielder is also an established part of the Denmark side; having made 33 appearances for them since making his debut in 2014, so he could well be one to keep an eye on in the summer.
