Some Southampton fans have been left alarmed by the transfer news about Tottenham Hotspur pursuing Saints midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Sky Sports have recently reported that Spurs are looking to pull off a late move for the midfielder, with club officials having already started their attempts to make the transfer possible. The report also goes onto state that Ralph Hasenhuttl is not willing to lose the Dane this month and a move will be more plausible in the summer.
Should Southampton sell Hojbjerg to Tottenham?
Sell him, get the money
No chance we sell him
Sky also claim that Southampton are currently in talks to hand Hojbjerg a new deal.
This news caused a frenzy among many Saints fans. When journalists like Alex Crook and Dan Sheldon confirmed that Spurs hadn’t made an offer, fans were left annoyed.
Just trying to unsettle our players before the FA Cup replay. #SaintsFC #dirtytricks #inyourdreams

Silly season in full swing… He is far too talented to sit on the bench at Spurs.

Hojbjerg is never as good as some people like to make out. A proper passion merchant but selling him now is suicide with the lack of centre midfielders we have. Wouldn’t mind cashing in during the summer though #SaintsFC

Agitating for a new contract. Stand down.

All this Hojbjerg talk just smells like agent scaremongering. No bids just paper talk, lets get those magical 36 points and begin contract talks like Ralph said #SaintsFC

Hojbjerg would be an idiot to go to #Spurs. Once all of their midfield options are available, he would be 4th/5th choice behind Sissoko, Ndombele, Winks, Lo Celso etc. Would be another sign of the lack of loyalty in players who just think of their bank accounts #saintsfc

Why on earth would Spurs want Hojbjerg #saintsfc

Southampton signed the midfielder from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2016 for a reported fee of £12.8m. He had penned a five-year deal at the St. Mary’s.
So far this season, Hojbjerg has made 27 appearances in all competitions for the Saints. 23 of those appearances have come in the Premier League in which he had assisted once. He has started all of the club’s last 13 Premier League games.
He had made 33 appearances in all competitions last season. He got four goals and also racked up as many as four assists.
What do we think?
Southampton have no time to sort out a replacement for the midfielder, with one day to go in the January transfer window to slam shut. They can’t allow Hojbjerg, who is valued at £13.5 million (as per Transfermarkt), to leave, no matter how much Spurs might offer.
