Some Southampton fans have expressed their dissatisfaction with the Goal of the Decade award that the Saints’ Twitter account has handed out to Sofiane Boufal recently.
With the decade now having ended, the Southampton twitter account gave out a Goal of the Decade award to a Sofiane Boufal goal against West Bromwich Albion two seasons ago.
Southampton fans: Did Boufal deserve the Goal of the Decade award?
No question about it
I've seen better
This hasn’t left too many Saints fans pleased, with many criticising the decision that had been announced by the club’s official Twitter handle.

Osvaldo vs City – as much of a great goal this was, Sof was under zero pressure by WBA and their defending was terrible. Dani held off 3 players and the finish was incredible! Honourable mention for Pelle vs QPR too

Boufal was loan at La Liga side Celta Vigo last season, before returning to the St. Mary’s this past summer. At Celta, the winger played 35 times in the La Liga and racked up a tally of three goals and also had four assists to his name.
So far this season, Boufal hasn’t exactly been in the centre of goals. He has played 16 times in all competitions for the Saints, but has come up with only two assists and is yet to score a single goal so far. His assists have come against Brighton and Sheffield United early in the season.
Boufal had joined Southampton from French side Lille in the summer of 2016 for a fee of £16 million. The club had broken its transfer record to sign Boufal, who has played 75 games in all competitions since then but has scored four goals and has five assists.
What do we think?
Boufal’s goal against West Brom was a fantastic one. What made it even more special is that the player isn’t a prolific goalscorer and it helped the Saints win the game. Having said that, Boufal has to improve his output or goals like this won’t carry too much importance.
