Twenty years ago, on December 4th, 1999, Sunderland Football Club beat Chelsea 4-1 in the Premier League. It was an incredible performance that helped them move into fourth place in the league. Sunderland’s official Twitter account posted the highlights of the game for fans to reminisce over.
Supporters remembered the game with extremely fond memories. Some fans suggest it was the greatest half of football they have ever seen their club play while another explains that it represents their favourite time as a Sunderland supporter.
Probably the greatest half of football I have ever seen a Sunderland side play. Magic memories. Shame it’s such a joke now.

Could the 1999 reserves easily beat Phil Parkinson's current Sunderland squad?
Yes
No
One fan even suggests that the 1999 reserve team could wipe the floor with Phil Parkinson’s current squad. They have no faith in the current team, and these highlights only show how big of a gap there is between the two generations.
Probably the best game at the stadium. The reserve team from that season would wipe the floor with the current bunch. No heart or desire now. Wait till Boxing Day and the crowd don’t show up like last year.

What do we think?
Perhaps the current squad ought to rewatch these highlights and inspire themselves to play football like their predecessors. A morale boost is exactly what the squad needs now. Hopefully, this can be their inspiration.
